Governance

This page explains how LT Counselling works, the standards I follow and what to do if you have a concern. It is here so you can feel confident about the service you receive.

1. Who provides the service

LT Counselling is run by Liam, a practising person centred counsellor. I offer counselling to adults and couples in Portsmouth, Southsea, Havant and Waterlooville, and online across the UK.

2. Professional membership and ethics

Counselling is not a statutorily regulated profession in the UK, and I am not currently a member of a professional body such as the BACP, NCPS or UKCP. I aim to work ethically and safely, in line with recognised good practice in counselling, including confidentiality, informed consent, clear boundaries and respect for your right to make your own choices.

3. Insurance and checks

  • I hold professional indemnity insurance for my counselling work.

  • I hold a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.

4. Data protection

LT Counselling is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). Your personal information is handled in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, and kept securely. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.

5. Confidentiality and its limits

What you share in counselling is kept confidential. There are a small number of situations where I may need to share information without your consent:

  • if I believe there is a serious risk of harm to you or to someone else

  • if there is a safeguarding concern about a child or an adult at risk

  • where the law requires it, for example a court order or information about terrorism

Wherever possible and safe to do so, I would talk with you first. We will go through confidentiality together at the start of counselling.

6. Safeguarding

I take the safety of the people I work with seriously. Where there is a safeguarding concern, I will follow the relevant safeguarding procedures, which may include contacting local safeguarding services.

7. Contracting

Before we begin, we agree how we will work together, including session length, fees, cancellations and confidentiality. Please see the Terms and Conditions for details.

8. Complaints

If you are unhappy with any part of the service, please tell me first by emailing liamtraceycounselling@gmail.com. I will acknowledge your concern and aim to respond fully and fairly. As I am not a member of a professional body, there is no external professional complaints procedure for this service. If we cannot resolve a concern together, you may wish to seek independent advice, for example from Citizens Advice.

9. Not an emergency service

LT Counselling is not an emergency service. If you are in crisis or worried about your safety, call 999 or go to A&E, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option, or call Samaritans free on 116 123, day or night.
